Corporate Training and E-Learning

Corporations, now lean and mean, can’t afford the luxury of sending managers to one- or two-week training programs off site. Indeed, Business Week magazine quoted one U.S. CEO as saying, “If we can do without someone for a week, we can probably do without them for good.”

Faced with retraining over 50 million American workers, corporate America is using distance learning, both internally and externally, for all aspects of training, according to the U.S. Distance Learning Association. Using distance learning rather than conventional methods saves corporations millions of dollars each year.

The U.S. corporate e-learning market reached $9.7 billion in 2007, according to IDC. The worldwide market reached $15.9 billion. While some growth is attributable to exchange rate advantages in Europe, IDC added, “most of the growth represents real increase in demand.”
